Young Adult Career Services

The Burlington County Youth Program prepares out-of-school youth ages 16-24 to make a successful transition into self-sufficiency and financial independence through: 

  • High School Equivalency/Academic Support
    • High School Equivalency Test preparation 
  • Work experience leading to Career opportunities
  • Career Skills training
  • Personal Supportive services

High School Equivalency Test Preparation & Academic Support
Participants who lack a High School Diploma or score below-required grade levels will be enrolled into an adult basic education program to obtain their High School Equivalency or to improve their basic academic skills. 

Employment & Work Experience Leading to Career Opportunities

Participants complete workplace readiness training in small groups either virtually or in the training facility. Upon completion of the training, participants either obtain employment or subsidized work experience leading to career opportunities. 

There will be a special effort to connect participants with work experiences in statewide growing economic sectors such as: 

  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Financial Services
  • Health Care
  • Life Sciences
  • Retail, Hospitality, & Tourism 
  • Technology & Entrepreneurship
  • Transportation, Logistics, & Distribution

Career Skills Training
Participants are guiding through various career paths and possible training programs, including, but not limited to: 

  • Certified Nurses Aide
  • Medical Assistant 
  • Patient Care Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Microsoft Office Certification
  • Cisco CCENT and CCNA Certifications
  • QuickBooks Users
  • CDL A and B

Personal Supportive Services
Support services will help the participant to achieve educational and career goals.

  • Adult Mentoring
  • Guidance and Counseling Services
  • Financial Literacy Education 
  • Entrepreneurial Skills Training
  • Post-Secondary Preparation and Transition Activities
  • Short-term Housing Support
  • Parenting/Pregnant Women Support
  • Transportation
  • Follow-up Services 

Eligibility Criteria

Participants must be between ages 16-24 and not currently attending school with at least one of the following barriers:

  • High School Dropout
  • High School graduate basic skills deficient; unemployed or underemployed; economically disadvantages (low income)
  • Court involved 
  • Pregnant/Parenting
  • DCP&P involved
  • Individual w/ disability 
  • Low income-seeking education or employment
