Immediate part time positions

Under supervision of the Acting Assistant County Adjuster, reviews financial information and checks legal settlement of patients in county/state institutions; prepares and maintains complete history of records of such cases; performs other related duties as required.
Investigates patients' resources and those legally responsible so that the county/state may be reimbursed as much as possible for institutional care by:
Evaluating the ability of responsible parties to pay for institutional care. This includes property ownership searches, health insurance inquiries, social security and veterans benefits inquiries and an assessment of a patient's assets.
Communicates with lawyers, employers, banks, and other appropriate parties concerning patient's assets, and obtains to submit any available documentation with the Settlement to the State billing system.
Writes to and conducts telephone interviews with any legally responsible relatives to determine whether they have financial resources which will permit them to pay all or part of concerned patient's maintenance; may assist patient's or legally responsible relatives in completing necessary questionnaires to obtain said information.
Prepares necessary documents and correspondence for settlement purposes, relative to each review of a patient's institutional care; maintains those records and files.
Checks records in the Surrogate's Court and Superior Court to ascertain any interest a patient may have in an estate, administration, or guardianship and contacts those executors, administrators, or guardians to determine the interest a patient may have and determines what funds could be made available for the patient's support and maintenance.
Assists with processing consent for mental health searches for gun permits: Complete forms as requested by the State and local police; complete sections if a hospitalization is found or forward letters to the requesting agencies if there is a next of kin at the same address; pull files and process any and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requests for records of individuals seeking to expunge their mental health records in order to obtain a firearm.
Assists with checking and verifies legal settlement of patients on the State billing reconciliations. Assists with the yearly estimated billing for the care and maintenance of patients.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the office.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in investigational work of the type performed as a claims investigator in an insurance firm or as an investigator in a credit organization or government tax, benefit or law enforcement agency.
LICENSE: Valid NJ Driver's License
