Litter is one of the most easily controlled types of nonpoint source pollution. All litter has a place and along road sides and in our water ways are not the proper place.
Recycle
Simply recycling your trash will eliminate a large portion of the litter found on our road ways. Most communities have a recycling program in effect for the most common products such as glass, metals, and plastics. Residents can also recycle items not thought of as recyclable such as composting food scraps.
Organizations
New Jersey is fortunate to have a large number of active state wide and regional associations who focus on water protection. If you join an existing organization, there are a wide range of potential activities that can assist in raising awareness about nonpoint source pollution and the value of our local waterways.
