The Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders is urging residents to continue to use caution while traveling following the first major winter storm of the season.
Between 4 to 6.5 inches of snow accumulated across most of Burlington County from Wednesday’s storm, which brought a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to the region.
According to the National Weather Service, Chesterfield had the highest snow accumulation with 6.5 inches, followed by Westampton with 6.2 inches and Cinnaminson with 5.4 inches. Other totals reported by the Weather Service include 5.4 inches in Mount Laurel, 5 inches in Moorestown and Medford, 4.7 inches in Florence and 4 inches in Evesham.
The Burlington County Department of Roads and Bridges dispatched its full fleet of 52 highway trucks to salt and plow the more than 500 miles of county roads. Highway crews worked all through last night and will continue to salt during the day today and into tonight due to re-freezing.
“Our Public Works employees deserve our thanks for working to clear our county highways,” said Freeholder Dan O’Connell, the Board’s liaison to the Departments of Public Works and Emergency Management. “While we’re grateful for all their hard work, motorists still need to be careful when out driving, especially with temperatures expected to drop below freezing again.”
Power outages
Few power outages were reported in Burlington County due to the storm. Public Service Electric & Gas and Atlantic City Electric each reported less than five outages in the county. Jersey Central Power & Light reported 56 customers without power in the county, all in Pemberton Township.
Code Blue
A Code Blue weather emergency remains in effect until 7 AM Saturday. During the Code Blue, the County provides short-term sheltering for homeless in clean, safe locations.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Individuals are sheltered in separate rooms to guard against the spread of coronavirus.
Residents in need of shelter are encouraged to call 211 for assistance.
Recycling change
Recycling collections in Cinnaminson, Maple Shade, Palmyra and Riverton were not completed Wednesday due to the storm. Those collections were expected to be completed today.
Collections in New Hanover, North Hanover, Pemberton Borough, Pemberton Township, Tabernacle, Wrightstown and at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst were expected to start Thursday afternoon. Streets not serviced Thursday will be completed Friday.
