SHERIFF ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SENIOR HOME SECURITY PROGRAM
Stanfield Says Program Offers Free Home Surveys and Safety Modifications
Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio announced today that Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield and her department are once again accepting applications to assist Burlington County’s senior citizens in securing their homes against crime, fire and power outages.
“This Home Security Program is just one of the many ways we at the County level are able to serve the senior residents of our community,” said Freeholder Director Garganio, “I applaud Sheriff Stanfield and her entire department for their commitment to making Burlington County a safer place to live for residents of all ages.”
The Sheriff’s Home Security Program provides seniors and individuals with disabilities free home security surveys and safety modifications.
“Our trained Crime Prevention Specialists provide a top-to-bottom survey of the home and, where necessary, can install a number of security items, including door and window locks, peep holes, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, all at no charge to the resident” said Stanfield.
“It also gives us the opportunity to make senior residents aware of the most common frauds and scams,” the sheriff added. “This is a totally free program and really, one that every older resident should take advantage of.”
Other security/safety items that may be installed free of charge include reflective house numbers, lamp timers, power failure lights, and “med-info” packets which provide emergency responders with important medical information about the residents.
Stanfield said the program has been in operation for more than 20 years and typically serves 300 homeowners a year.
The program is being funded with grant funds provided by the County’s Office on Aging. To qualify, at least one person in the household must be 60 years of age or older. Interested residents should call (609) 265-5796 to register.
