VISIONS ON THE RANCOCAS: ART SMITH
Thursday, November 7, 2019
When Art Smith moved to Mount Holly from Phoenix two years ago, he was immediately attracted to the waters of the creek and to those of the mill race. His first paintings here were of the Rancocas and he has continued to explore this subject with sketches and acrylic paintings. At the same time, Art became interested in the work of Mount Holly painter, Hugh Campbell. Art was inspired by his artistic interpretations of New Jersey landscapes, buildings, but most specifically, the Rancocas. Several of his paintings of the creek have been a visual reference for Art’s paintings. These paintings of the Rancocas Creek are his visual response to the beauty of these waters.
