Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste (HHW) is leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries and pesticides. Improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.

In an effort to remove HHW from the municipal solid waste stream and keep it out of the Burlington County landfill, the County commenced operation of a permanent collection facility in 1994. This facility is open year round and serves:

  • Homeowners within Burlington County;
  • Small businesses within Burlington County which produce small or infrequent amounts of hazardous waste (must be registered as a very small quantity generator (VSQG) (Hazardous Waste Small Business Program); and
  • Out-of-County residents.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) may not be delivered via a commercial vehicle. Commercial vehicles are those with commercial license plates and/or those with business logos on them.

HHW may not be delivered by rental trucks or trailers.  These are considered commercial vehicles.

Burlington County residents may bring their HHW generated from their residence in a residential vehicle.

All hazardous waste being generated and transported by a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) must be registered as a self-generating hauler or have an A-901 license. There will be no exceptions.
